Player Spotlight: Jesse Cornelissen – The Midfield Magician

We caught up with one of Stephanian Ottery AFC’s rising stars, Jesse Cornelissen, an attacking midfielder with flair, fire, and a love for the game that’s infectious. Here’s what he had to say in our latest We Are Stephs player interview!

🗣️ What’s your name and what position do you love playing most?

Jesse Cornelissen, and I love playing attacking midfielder—creating chances and scoring goals is my thing!

🧥 How did you feel when you first put on the Stephanian Ottery jersey?

I felt nervous and proud. It was a big moment for me, representing a club with such a strong history.

🌟 Who is your favourite soccer player and why?

Cristiano Ronaldo—he’s the best player alive! His dedication and skills are next level.

⚽ What’s the best goal you’ve ever scored or assisted? Tell us about it!

My goal against Fish Hoek! I love beating them—it was a rocket from outside the box and the crowd went wild!

🤝 What do you enjoy most about being part of the Stephs team?

My teammates are fun to play with and always give their best. It’s like a family on the field.

🌍 If you could play against any team in the world, who would it be?

Definitely Portugal—because Ronaldo plays there and I’d love to test myself against the best.

🎩 What’s your favourite soccer skill or trick to show off?

The Snake Bite! It’s slick, quick, and leaves defenders guessing.

😂 Who’s the funniest player in your team and what makes them so funny?

Me! I’m always cracking jokes—my teammates can’t stop laughing!

🔥 What do you do to get ready before a big match? Any special rituals?

I practice my skills and take shots at goal to get sharp and focused.

💬 What advice would you give to someone who wants to join a soccer team?

Stay strong and believe in yourself. Confidence is key!

🏆 What’s your dream for the future—do you want to play for Bafana Bafana or a big club one day?

I’d love to play for Manchester United—that’s the dream!
