Stephanian Ottery Show Grit in Training Clash Against Cape Town City Engen Knockout Squad

In a spirited training match held at Cape Town City’s Malta Park facility in Observatory, Stephanian Ottery’s First and Reserve teams combined forces to take on the Citizens’ Engen Knockout squad in a three-part session of 25 minutes each.

The match offered a valuable opportunity for both sides to test their depth and tactical setups, with new Cape Town City head coach Jan Vreman — recently appointed from the Netherlands — watching closely from the sidelines as he assessed his squad’s potential.

Session One: CT City 1-0 Stephs

The opening 25 minutes saw Cape Town City assert early control, pressing high and capitalizing on a defensive lapse to take a 1-0 lead. Stephs struggled to find rhythm but showed glimpses of promise in transition.

Session Two: CT City 1-2 Stephs

The second session belonged to Stephanian Ottery, who came out with renewed energy and tactical discipline. Their pressing game paid off with two well-worked goals, turning the tide and taking a 2-1 lead. City managed to pull one back, but Stephs held firm to edge the session.

Session Three: CT City 3-0 Stephs

In the final stretch, Cape Town City’s fitness and cohesion shone through. They dominated possession and found the net three times, sealing the overall training match with a strong finish.

While the final tally leaned in City’s favor, Stephanian Ottery’s mixed squad showed resilience and flashes of quality, especially in the second session. The match served as a valuable experience for the Stephs players, offering exposure to a professional setup and high-level competition.

Coach Vreman’s presence added a layer of intensity to the fixture, with the Dutchman keenly observing the squad’s depth and adaptability ahead of the upcoming Engen Knockout Challenge.
